Dangers of hypertension
There are so many doctors and medical professionals who call hypertension ‘the silent killer’. This is quite valid and justified as high BP is often quite stealthy and quiet in its progression. It does not have very dramatic symptoms or signs which means that in many cases it goes quite undetected and unseen even as it continues its nefarious and harmful effects in the human body. In the US, it seems only half the people who have hypertension (high blood pressure) seem to know that they are afflicted by the situation. Most people would just laugh if you told them to check their BP, because they feel quite fit and fine and do not have any external inkling or indication that there could be something wrong with their health.
But Hypertension is a killer as it is often a starting point and thus a precursor to coronary or heart ailments. If it is not detected and checked in time, it can lead to various debilitating and life threatening situations like heart attacks, kidney failure as well as heart failure, not to mention eye problems too. It is also sad that only half of those who have high BP are taking medicines because they are afraid of the side effects of it.
