Travel and Help People at the Same Time
Travel therapist jobs offer a unique opportunity to indulge your love of traveling while using your counseling skills to help people around the country and the world. Travel therapy involves working at different locations for a certain time period and then moving on to a new location with new patients. This type of work gives you the chance to have flexibility with your schedule while experiencing new areas of the world, and being paid for it as well. Some therapists join a travel therapy agency so they can get a taste for different locations before deciding where they want to settle permanently.
Of course, before you join this exciting line of work, you’ll have to get your therapist education and license. Some online schools offer courses for a therapist degree. The minimum requirement to become a therapist is a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Then, for jobs in a clinical setting, you’ll need a master’s degree in social work (MSW).
When you sign on with an agency that offers travel therapist jobs, you’ll be able to tell them where you would like to travel. You don’t have to accept the assignment they offer you. Most assignments will last three to four months. After that, you can either be reassigned or you might be able to renew your current position. Some jobs can turn into permanent positions if that’s what you decide you’d like.
As a travel therapist, you can receive a competitive salary and benefits. Some of the benefits might include medical, dental and vision insurance, prescription drug coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan and life insurance. If you already have medical coverage, you could be compensated in some other way.
At your location, you’ll most likely stay in a furnished apartment. The travel employer should pay for this and possibly for a rental car. There should be no cost to you when you accept a travel therapist position.
